Königssee

The emerald-green Königssee stretches out at your feet. The eight-kilometre-long lake nestles between the mountain cliffs like a fjord. The Königsblick at 1,874 m above sea level even offers a view down to the famous pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä. With a depth of 192 meters, the 1.2 km wide Königssee remains quite cold even in midsummer. So why not watch the cool water from afar?

Watzmann

The Watzmann is the most dominant mountain massif in the Berchtesgaden Alps. It is not only its height of 2,713 meters, but above all its unusual shape that makes it so famous. From the Jenner, you have the “Watzmann woman” directly in front of you. The peaks of the Watzmann tower above. The rugged, imposing and second-highest mountain in Germany feels close enough to touch.

Steineres Meer & Hagengebirge

The Steinernes Meer is an impressive karst plateau between the Watzmann, Königssee, Hagengebirge, Hochkönigstock and Hochkalter massif. The largest mountain massif in the Berchtesgaden Alps looks like a sea turned to stone with undulating, stony waves – hence the name Steinernes Meer.

High above the Königssee there is an almost untouched patch of nature: the Hagengebirge. Here you can experience the unique and untouched mountain world with rare plants and animals. Observe chamois and ibex at your leisure.

All ambitious hikers will find numerous hikes to the mountain peaks or multi-day tours here.
Good physical condition, appropriate equipment and a mountain guide are recommended.

Hikes
