Traditional “Schäfflertanz” at the Jenner mountain station
15th of February 2026| 1:15 pm
After extensive preparations, the traditional “Schäfflertanz” dance will once again be performed in Berchtesgaden. The event will take place on Carnival Sunday around noon on the restaurant’s panoramic terrace at the Jennerbahn mountain station. Depending on the weather, another dance is also planned for the afternoon.
The “Schäfflertanz” has a long tradition in Bavaria. Originally, the “Schäffler”, or coopers, performed this dance in the 16th century to encourage the population after a plague epidemic and spread joy. Today, the dance is considered a symbol of community, joie de vivre, and perseverance, and is only performed every seven years. The dance at the mountain station is a special event for the “Schäffler”.
There is a special photo opportunity at the “Jennerhex” toboggan run: the “Schäffler’s” children and some dancers ride down on sleds, and the Schäffler can be seen wearing their traditional wreaths.
Alpine Luge Sprint Slalom
Demo Event on the Jenner
On Saturday, February 28, 2026, the Jennerbahn middle station will become a meeting place for winter sports fans, families, and curious visitors. The Alpine Luge Sprint Slalom focuses on an innovative winter sports experience that adds a whole new dimension to luge.
Classic natural track sledding is evolving into Alpine sledding – with new possibilities, race formats, and spectacular slalom on the slopes. Exciting professional races as a demo event for the future World Cup impressively demonstrate how dynamic and versatile this young discipline is. The first run begins at 11:00 a.m. The second run starts at 1:00 p.m.
At the same time, visitors can look forward to a varied and action-packed family program starting at 10:30 a.m.:
A toboggan park with different sections for all age groups, a separate children’s toboggan school supervised by experienced toboggan coaches from Berchtesgaden, and an open children’s race (2:00 p.m.) offer ideal opportunities for young tobogganers to get started, with the focus clearly on fun.
Special highlight: For children and young people under the age of 18, the Jennerbahn cable car ride up and down the mountain is free on the day of the event.
The sporting day ends with free use of the slalom course for everyone and a cozy finale in the “HALBZEIT” restaurant.
Alpine Luge marks a technological milestone in winter sports – comparable to the introduction of carving skis in skiing. It combines maneuverability, control, speed, and riding enjoyment in a new, dynamic design that nevertheless remains true to the classic recreational sled. Thanks to its universal design, it can be used on both snow and ice, has standardized, inexpensive runners, and thus opens up access to (racing) luge for new nations. The product creates the basis for a modern, accessible winter experience and positions itself as a bridge between recreational and competitive sports. The Alpine Luge Sprint Slalom is a luge discipline in which athletes race through a set of gates on ski slopes. In two rounds, the athlete with the fastest total time is determined. The maximum duration of a run is around 25 seconds. The first run starts at 11:00 a.m. The second run starts at 1:00 p.m. The new alpine luge sprint slalom format is being tested at World Cup level on the Jenner. Further formats and implementation in the World Cup are planned for the coming winter seasons. The toboggan park offers the ideal environment for learning how to use the new toboggan safely and dynamically. It defines the basic concept of a standardized and experience-oriented tobogganing infrastructure in winter sports destinations. The toboggan park was developed by the International Luge Federation (FIL). On up to four different tracks (braking track, curve track, parallel track, speed track), tobogganing maneuvers can be taught methodically and learned in a playful way by young and old alike. Yes. Yes. Trained tobogganing guides are on site to impart expertise, safety, and passion for modern tobogganing. The aim is to teach […]
